After World War II, the government established Housing Projects 1-8 in Quezon City. The rebuilding of Manila and housing initiatives in 1945 through the National Housing Commission directed by then President Sergio Osmeña Sr. kickstarted. Manuel Acuña Roxas continued this effort with the People’s Homesite and Housing Corporation in 1947. By the 1950s, Homesite Projects were finished, relocating residents from Manila to these new areas.
While some projects retained their original names, others changed. Notable areas include Barangay Roxas (formerly Project 1), Barangays Quirino (Projects 2 & 3), Cubao District (Project 4), Barangay E. Rodriguez (Project 5), Project 6, Barangays Bungad and Veterans Village (Project 7), and Barangays Bahay Toro, Baesa, and Sangandaan (Project 8). In the 1970s, the song "Project" by the Juan Dela Cruz Band depicted life in these communities, influencing their culture.
